Public Viewing Event: Transit of Planet Mercury Across the Sun

November 11, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 12:34 pm

THE 2019 TRANSIT OF MERCURY: On Monday morning, November 11, Mercury will pass directly in front the Sun. The rare transit begins at 7:35 a.m. EST and lasts for almost six hours. However, for the Mountain Time Zone, the transit will be in progress at sunrise. Plus for the SJO’s location, the Wet Mountains to its east delay sunrise about 30 minutes. The Sun with Mercury already transiting will become accessible at the SJO location about 8:30 a.m. Mercury will continue its slow progress across the Sun’s disk until it passes off the disk approximately 11:04 a.m. MST. This is a special event that won’t happen again until 2032.
