Annual Fundraiser for Custer County Veterans
This 2nd annual event attracts blues enthusiasts from around the state with an outstanding line-up of musicians and bands. Bring chairs or blankets to make yourself comfortable in the park setting and enjoy fare from vendors featuring locally sourced food and craft beers.
Admission into this family-friendly blues festival is by donation and is the annual and prime fundraiser for the American Legion Westcliffe Post 170, a local volunteer organization that provides physical and financial support to the area’s veterans and veteran widows.
Headliner for the show will be the Chris Duarte Group. They emerged on the scene out of Austin, Texas in the early 90’s and gained notoriety after wowing a packed room of industry insiders at the South X Southwest convention. In the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing, Duarte quickly gained a National reputation as young man imbued with a playing style comparable at times to the late guitarist. Chris’ won the “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s 1995 Reader’s Poll. He also finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category that year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King. Legend has it that Chris will play so hard that his fingers bleed in a set. The legend is true.
Incredible Bluesman John Long will be returning to the 2nd Annual Blues Festival. John Long (born 1950), is an American country blues singer, finger-style guitarist, harmonica player and songwriter. He performs in a pre-war acoustic blues style, although his material is contemporary and mainly composed by Long and his elder brother. His mentor and inspiration was Homesick James. Michael Hornbuckle Blues Band is coming Westcliffe, Colorado to entertain our Veterans and Community! After an appearance at the 2015 Telluride Blues Fest, the Mile High Blues Society recognized Michael by awarding him: Best Blues Band, Best Self-Produced Album, and sent he and his band to Memphis to represent Colorado at the International Blues Challenge. He’s opened recently for ZZ Top, The Dobbie Brothers, Buddy Guy and many more.
The Springstown Shakers is a blues band that incorporates a modern sound with an old blues feel. Currently performing as a trio, they bring a certain sound to the blues with twists of swamp, rock, funk and soul. Winners of the 2020 Mile High Blues Society Colorado Blues Challenge they returned from Memphis in May 2022 from representing Colorado in the International Blues Challenge.
Band of Brothers is one of Colorado’s finest Blues Bands that plays a big variety of dance music: Rock, Blues, Funk, Americana and more. Colorado Roots Rock. Joining them is special guest and Slim Harpo Award Winner — The Legendary Sundanze!
