Alla Prima Westcliffe is excited to welcome artists and collectors for the 15th year!
Come join us in beautiful Westcliffe and partake in this long-standing tradition. Plein air artists from all over the country are eagerly anticipating a visit to Custer County to capture its natural beauty.
From glowing aspens in the mountains to wildflowers, anything is possible in September in Westcliffe, Colorado. Inspired by whatever nature bequeaths, participating artists will create spectacular original plein air paintings during this nine-day event.
Alla Prima Westcliffe begins with an optional two-day plein air workshop on Sept. 6 & 7 with nationally renowned artist Lorenzo Chavez from Parker, Colorado. On the 8th of September artists take to the hills and valleys in search of the perfect vista in the Alla Prima Westcliffe Plein Air competition. Plein Air is the term used to describe an artist who paints directly on canvas in an outdoor setting rather than a studio. Be on the lookout for easels set up in random places throughout the county as artists choose their subjects. Feel free to stop and watch them create, or just offer a friendly “Westcliffe Wave” as you pass by.
While Alla Prima Westcliffe Plein Air is happening, 3rd Street Gallery hosts an exhibit and sale featuring APW artists’ studio and plein air work from September 5-15. Artists continue to paint throughout the week until they hang their framed finished pieces in Lange Hall. Participating artists work will be judged by Lorenzo Chavez who will award amazing cash prizes, gift certificates and professional art materials – a treasure trove for artists!
The public is invited to attend our Alla Prima Westcliffe Show at Lange Hall both Friday, Sept.13 and Saturday, Sept.14. Each day will have special events, stay tuned to find out more! This show offers the opportunity to admire one-of-a-kind original art, all of which are available for purchase.
Alla Prima Westcliffe artists can participate in the Quick Draw event during a three-hour competition on Saturday. We invite the public to Lange Hall after 12:30 Saturday to cast your vote on your favorite Quick Draw artwork. The Quick Draw winner will be announced at Lange Hall.
On Sunday Alla Prima Westcliffe artists will take their unsold artwork home or transfer their art to continue a special Alla Prima Westcliffe Show at 3rd Street Gallery, open Thursday through Monday between 11am – 4pm. Plein air artworks can be viewed and purchased there until Sept 29.
A work of art is a lasting memory of a special occasion, and we invite you to take home a meaningful piece that recreates the uniqueness of our Wet Mountain Valley. We look forward to meeting you at Alla Prima Westcliffe 2024!
Pre-registration by 8/15 – $50, Registration 8/16 – 9/8 – $60. Limited to 60 participants. Artists can begin whenever after registration and materials have been stamped.
