Unlike many nearby trails, Sand Creek Lakes features a more gradual climb, making it a scenic and rewarding journey through high-country meadows, forests, and open alpine terrain. Though the hike is long and requires preparation for a full day on the trail, the stunning mountain views and peaceful wilderness setting make it well worth the effort.

Phantom Terrace is a dramatic alpine traverse connecting the Venable and Comanche trail systems in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Known for its narrow mountainside path, sweeping valley views, and rugged high-country scenery, this unique section of trail offers an unforgettable hiking experience.
