In 2001, Michael was out for a drive, and accidentally dropped into the Wet Mountain Valley. He swore from that day forward he would be a part of Westcliffe.
How did you end up owning a business in town?
We had been looking to be a bigger part of the community for quite a while. When we heard the Westcliffe Inn was for sale, we jumped at the opportunity.
How important is tourism and visitor spending to your business?
Tourism is incredibly important to the Westcliffe Inn. The vast majority of our business comes from visitors. We do all we can to foster a positive interaction with our guests and routinely ask them to tell friends and neighbors about Westcliffe.
What is your favorite thing about owning a tourism-related business?
Our favorite part of owning a business is meeting people from different parts of the country and world. Learning their customs and ways of life shed light on how we are all connected and part of one another. In addition, we gain new friends and new places to travel.
Besides your own business, what is another favorite business in Custer County?
One of our favorite businesses is Willie’s. Not only do they serve great breakfasts, their customer service is terrific too!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
We love to explore the unknown. That includes driving dirt roads just to see where they end. Sometimes we hike the Rainbow Trail to parts we have not seen before.
