Live Theater – Biedermann and the Firebugs
October 8 @ 7:00 pm - October 15 @ 7:00 pm$20
The Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts (WCPA) is presenting Biedermann and the Firebugs October 8-10 and 15-17. This dark comedy was written originally as a radio play by Swiss playwright Max Frisch in 1953, who dubbed it “a Learning Play without a lesson.” The play takes place in a nameless town beset by arsonists. The central character, businessman Gottlieb Biedermann, flanked by a chorus of firefighters, his wife Babette, and maid Anna, finds himself more and more flummoxed as the two “peddlars” he admits into his household show every sign of being the arsonists in question. Part allegory, part farce, Firebugs remains as timely and timeless today as when it was first written.
The WCPA’s production is directed by Dan Hiester, who also stars as Biedermann, and features Chris Tabb, McKenzie Huffman, and Shana Abe. Show times are 7 pm Friday and Saturday, 2 pm Sunday. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for students and active military, and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be limited to 50 per performance for social distancing purposes and are available at Candy’s Coffee, Arterburn Gallery or at the door.
