If you’ve already visited Westcliffe’s art galleries but want to spend more time exploring the beautiful Wet Mountain Valley, here are some great activities for all interests.

  1. Visit All Aboard Westcliffe and The Silver Cliff Museum to learn all about the area’s history.
  2. Head to Alvarado Campground and hop on the Venable Trailhead and hike the famous Rainbow Trail
  3. Drive the Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway to Bishop Castle, a stone, steel, and iron fortress built singlehandedly by Jim Bishop. Bishop Castle is free and open to the public during daylight hours. Just a few miles south of the castle, you’ll find Lake Isabel along the CO 165 portion of Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway. This popular camping destination not only offers an afternoon filled with beautiful scenery but also excellent fishing, paddling, hiking, biking and trails for ATVs
  4. If you’re a nature lover and are up for a ride on more back roads, consider detouring on your return trip to Mission: Wolf, a peaceful sanctuary for captive wolves and wolf-dog crosses.
  5. Go stargazing! Westcliffe/Silver Cliff is the first International Dark Sky Designated Community in Colorado and the highest in the world. Stick close to town and visit the Smokey Jack Observatory, or try a more adventurous approach aboard an Amish Wagon Ride. Learn more about Custer County’s Dark Skies.
  6. Go bowling at Cliff Lanes. It’s fun for the whole family.
