Desert Reef is not your typical hot spring; it’s a refuge in the mountains, with desert landscapes and warm mineral waters that sweep you away from the stresses of the world. A recent renovation in 2022 created the refreshed atmosphere it has now, with improvements to the pools and remodeled Airstreams and Tiny Homes available for overnight stays. Less than an hour from Westcliffe, in Florence, Colorado, Desert Reef is an oasis of escape for people to relax, recharge, and find inspiration.
Please note, reservations are required and Desert Reef encourages guests to read the full FAQs prior to making a reservation.
The water is heated by the earth’s core, flowing from their artesian well into the pools. It runs hot, about 125-135 degrees Fahrenheit, but the temperature is controlled during the winter and summer months. Its uniquely blue hue comes from the mineral Travertine. Renovations to the pools ensured that 98% of the flow-through water makes it back to the Arkansas River.
Desert Reef is all-inclusive and welcoming to the curious. Swimsuits are optional except from 10 am–7 pm on Fridays when suits are required. Familiarize yourself with their FAQs before visiting, as reservations are required and rules do apply.
Many events take place at the hot springs, like movie screenings and sound baths. While soaking, enjoy the sights and sounds of live music and movie screenings. Be aware that tickets are separate from reservations. Check the calendar for upcoming events and plan a trip to this unique location.
