From snow-capped mountains to wildflowers, anything is possible in early June in Westcliffe. An array of spectacular original plein air paintings will be created, inspired by whatever nature bequeaths us.
Alla Prima Westcliffe, a nine-day event, is back for our 14th year! Join us in beautiful Westcliffe, Colorado to partake in a long-standing tradition. Anticipation has attracted plein air artists from all over the country who have already registered to come to Custer County to capture our natural beauty with paint.
Plein Air, a term used to describe the artist painting directly onto canvas within the landscape is simply a fancy term for painting outdoors, not in a studio! Be on the lookout for easels set up in random places as artists choose their subjects. Stop and watch as they create or offer a friendly Westcliffe Wave as you pass by. We are awarding over $7000 in cash, gift certificates and professional art materials – a treasure trove for artists!
Artwork provides a lasting memory of special occasions and we invite you to take home a meaningful piece of art that recreates the uniqueness of our Wet Mountain Valley. This show promises to have a vast offering of one-of-a-kind original artwork and you will have an opportunity to own one or more special pieces!
